Step 1 — Prepare

Unbox & verify

Inspect your Trezor packaging for tamper-evident seals. Always start at the official setup page to avoid scams.

• Charge/inspect the device and cables.
• Use a clean, malware-free computer.
• Open trezor.io/start.

Ledger users

If you have a Ledger device, visit ledger.com/start for the official onboarding steps and Ledger Live app download.

Step 2 — Initialize securely

Create a new wallet or recover

Follow on-screen prompts to either create a new wallet or recover from an existing seed. Write your recovery seed on the provided card, offline — never on a digital file or photo.

Step 3 — Install Trezor Suite

Download official software

Use the official suite for firmware updates and portfolio management: suite.trezor.io. Ledger users will instead use Ledger Live.

Keep firmware up to date

Only install firmware through Trezor Suite — firmware updates include critical security fixes.

Step 4 — Security best practices

Protect your recovery phrase

• Store seed phrases offline in multiple secure locations.
• Consider a metal backup plate for fire/water resistance.
• Enable passphrase protection for an extra layer (optional, advanced).

Avoid common pitfalls
